On the afternoon of December 28, Professor Liu Li, President of Beijing Language and Culture University, gave a lecture entitled “worldly ideal and sense of national identity” for the master students of MTCSOL.
President Liu Li said that every young person has his/her own ideal. The starting point and bearing of this ideal are the sense of national identity. He gave quotations from classics, and he hackled the cases that Chinese intellectuals have the world in their minds, serve the country and save the nation with the clue of poetry.
President Liu raised hopes for postgraduate students. Firstly, he hoped that all students will firmly place their motherland in their hearts and consciously cultivate their own sense of national identity. Secondly, he hoped that students do their utmost to devote themselves to their studies, to work hard to achieve continuity in learning both from China and the West in ancient and modern times, to cultivate their innovation ability, and to determine to surpass ourselves and surpass predecessors in depth and breadth through learning. They are determined to transcend their own learning beyond the depth and breadth of their predecessors. Thirdly, he hoped that the students can be persevering in their studies and overcame their loneliness.
President Liu Li encouraged students to work hard to become excellent graduate students and strive to build the BLCU into a world-class language university.
