Famous Translator and Professor of BLCU Fu Weici Passed Away

  On March 16, Fu Weici, famous translator and professor of Beijing Language and Culture University passed away in Ji Shui Tan Hospital at the age of 91. He translated English writer Maugham’s novels into Chinese, he also translated Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four collaborating with Dong Leshan , and he was a happy old man in the reader’s mind.

  In the year of 2007, he and his wife signed an instrument of donating body to the Union Medical College Hospital after he died. On the morning of 17, Mr. Fu’s last wish has been completed witnessed by his relatives and friends. In farewell room of Ji Shui Tan Hospital, Mr Fu nestled quietly in flowers with Mozart’s melodious Requiem. The ceremony of transferring body was hosted there, Mr. Fu dedicating his last love to the community. Although Mr. Fu passed away, his spirit stays forever.

  Fu Weici, once was called Fu Wei, was born in Harbin province of China. He studied Western language and literature at Fu Jen Catholic University, Zhejiang University and Peking University. In the later period of 1950, he engaged in Germany literature translation, worked as director of Translators Association of China for two terms, and in 1980, he joined in the Chinese writers association. He worked at Tsinghua University and Peking University, engaging into the Chinese teaching for foreign students. In 1963, he moved to Beijing Language and Culture University  teaching English and translation. Mr. Fu writes every day for many years. In 2008, his personal work Game Life was published by Central Compilation & Translation Press.
