September 18 afternoon, more than 1120 new students from all over the country gathered in Beiyu Litang with excitement and joy, to attend the Beijing Language and Culture University 2017 undergraduate freshman ceremony.
President Liu Li extended a warm welcome to the 2017 undergraduates who joined BLCU and delivered an important speech on the theme of "Fulfill everyday". Mr. Liu told the glorious history of BLCU and the advantages and characteristics of BLCU, and Mr. Liang Qichao's "Don’t shame today" to 2017 freshmen: hoping that BLCU students could live up to the expectations of this era, cherish four years of beautiful university time, and also introspect from time to time, make progress day after day.
Professor Liang Xiaosheng from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, made a speech as a teacher representative, by citing Mr. Zhang Lan's "Four Encouragements and One Commandment", he exhorted students to be self-love, self-study, self-esteem, self-reliance and encouraged students to independent thinking. Professor Liang Qing of the Faulty of Foreign Studies in expressed her expectations for the students in her speech: learn to talk with your past, your present and your future; get to know yourselves, be retrospective do well in self-planning; practice in person, be a noble person with international vision, nation feelings and gentleman demeanor ".
Internal students representatives helped the 2017 undergraduate freshmen to wear the university badge "baby fish" mascot and then sent the mascots to them as present. In the BLCU song, the opening ceremony was successfully ended.
Finally, Secretary Ni Haidong made the first lecture entitled "Thanks yesterday, cherish today, achieve tomorrow-be a lofty youth" for the 2017 undergraduate students. Secretary Ni hoped that students could learn to be grateful, good at express their thankfulness; cherish the moment, firm their belief, and strive to improve their own capabilities; actively temper their noble character, and strive to join the great practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics; to comply with “Spread virtues through languages，bring harmony to the world”, which was the spirit of BLCU motto, keep in mind the "Troubled, improve yourself; valued, improve the world," the essence of traditional Chinese culture, earnestly learn, assiduously study, return parents and alma mater with excellent results, serve the motherland with wonderful life.
