On September 19, the opening ceremony of the first world conference on language resources protection was held in Changsha. The theme of this conference is “the role of language diversity in creating a community of shared future for mankind: protection, application and promotion of language resources”.

Du Zhanyuan, Vice Minister of Education and Director of the State Language Commission, pointed out in the keynote report that language is an important basic resource for human society and continues the spiritual blood of various countries and nations. China regards diverse languages as valuable national resources and treasures and actively protects them. By vigorously promoting and standardizing the use of national commonly-used languages, scientifically protecting national languages, developing language education, improving language services and inheriting language culture, China’s diverse language resources will play a positive role in promoting economic development, maintaining political stability, promoting cultural construction and ensuring national security.

In 2015, the Chinese government launched the “Chinese language resource protection project”. Compared with other similar projects, the Chinese language resource protection project is currently the largest, most extensive, most invested and most participated among language resource protection projects in the world. He urged all countries to strengthen the investigation records, popularization and application of language resources and related infrastructure, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, share international experiences that can be used for reference, protect the diversity of language resources, and make contributions to jointly creating a common language world of shared beauty and a community of shared future for mankind as well.
