In the afternoon of October 17, Prof. Christian Degueldre delivered a lecture entitled “Language Proficiency and text typology” at the Teaching Building One room 209 in Beijing Language and Culture University.

Prof. Degueldre gave three suggestions for translators: tools, concepts, preparation. He pointed out that the basic function of translation is communication, and in the test of language level and translation performance, different language proficiency will face different challenges in the translation process, in order to actively respond to challenges, every translation should try to expand common sense, proficiency in foreign languages, and introduced a number of international language skills models. He believes that the success of the translator has internal factors and external factors, such as motivation, self-confidence, institutional support and so on.

During the questioning session, Professor Degueldre patiently answered questions about translation learning and shared his own learning experiences with the audience. He encourages people to maintain their passion and patience for language learning so that they can stay on the road to translation.
