On March 17, Chinese University of Hong Kong and Beijing Language and Culture University Chinese Linguistics and applied linguistics joint research center held inauguration ceremony and the Chinese language and world forum at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The National Social Science Division of the Ministry of Education Professor Zhang Donggang, President of Beijing Language and Culture University Professor Cui Xiliang, President of Chinese University of Hong Kong Professor Shen Zuyao attended the event.

    The joint research center will integrate the study resources of two universities, promoting the development of linguistics and related subjects, which will further strengthen cooperation in the field of linguistics research and construct a more powerful national research base.

    Then the “Chinese Language and the World” summit forum was held later. President Cui Xiliang gave a speech entitled “How Chinese Language Step into the Outside World”, which studies the competition among world languages, the current international status of Chinese language and the drive to push Chinese into the world.

    On March 18, joint research center held the first development forum. The two universities discussed of the future development and research direction of the center.
