On June 2 and June 9, Confucius institute successfully held two lectures and experience activities on Chinese paper cutting art and culture in ICC of Zhonggong campus.
In the first lecture, the teacher used colorful pictures and videos to help the students understand the history and classification of paper cutting, as well as the folk culture in paper cutting. The second lecture introduced engraving paper. After understanding the classification of engraving paper, the differences between the styles of engraving paper in the north and the south, and the basic engraving methods, the students chose their favorite patterns including flower and bird, figures and other patterns. With the guidance and help of the teachers, they made vivid works with their engraving knives.
Through two lectures, the students not only experienced the unique traditional Chinese folk art of cutting paper personally, but also felt the intangible skills on their fingertips. They also understood the "craftsman spirit" of the inheritors of the intangible cultural heritage of Chinese cutting paper. Everyone said one after another: "only by doing it yourself can you find that cutting paper is not as simple as imagined. It not only tests hand skills, but also tests patience. I hope there will be similar activities in the future. ”
