The Chinese calligraphy experience activity is an important project of the Confucius Institute at Mason to display Chinese culture. In recent years, at the I-Cafe event and the Confucius Institute Day event at George Mason University, the teachers have performed on-site to show the art of Chinese calligraphy. Some students have expressed their desire to learn Chinese calligraphy at that time.
In September 2017, the Confucius Institute at Mason officially opened a Chinese calligraphy class. Every Tuesday morning in the calligraphy class, students learned from basic strokes and then learned common Chinese characters. Each of their strokes must be practiced repeatedly until they are satisfactorily written. Under the guidance of the teachers, they copied famous copybooks, and their interest in the culture of Chinese characters and the art of calligraphy became more and more concentrated. They often say that Chinese calligraphy is like a beautiful painting, drawing them to the Confucius Institute for continuous study.
Some participants who participated in the Chinese calligraphy class said that they have a lot of new understanding of Chinese calligraphy art and Chinese character culture. They are often immersed in the joy of writing at home, which unconsciously raising their artistic aesthetic ability.
