On December 5, Beijing time, the Confucius Institute at Sheffield University in Britain won the title of “Advanced Confucius Institute” at the 13th Confucius Institute Conference in Chengdu. This is the second time that the Confucius Institute at Sheffield University has won this honor after 2010 and 2015.
The Confucius Institute at Sheffield University was inaugurated in 2007 by John Prescott, then British Deputy Prime Minister, and is the first model Confucius Institute in the world. Its Chinese cooperative universities are Beijing Language and Culture University and Nanjing University. In 2014 and 2016, the President of Sheffield University ( 2007 - 2018 ) and Sir Keith bonet, Director of Confucius Institute, were also named “Advanced Individuals” of the year. In 2016, Confucius Institute won the “Special Honors for Outstanding Institutions” award issued by the National Resource Center for Supplementary Education (NRCSE), becoming the seventh institution in Britain and the first institution outside London to win the award.
